The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a new cannabis vape shop license to a new company called Weed Vapes.
The license allows the company to sell vapor products at licensed vape shops in New Orleans and Manhattan, as well as at locations outside the city.
The new license comes after the state Department of Health issued a request for proposals in May to allow cannabis vape shops to operate in New Jersey.
The Department of Public Health is responsible for regulating vape shops and their locations.
State Health Commissioner MaryAnn Glidden, a Democrat, said she was thrilled to see Weed Vaping’s application for a vape shop permit.
She said that allowing vape shops is a step in the right direction in New Hampshire, which is one of several states that have legalized the sale of marijuana.
“It’s great that the New York Department of the Health and Mental Hygiene is working with New Jersey to ensure that the public can safely access this product,” Glidden said in a statement.
“Vaping is a wonderful way for New Yorkers to take their medicine and we look forward to working with them to ensure the safety of our community.”
A spokeswoman for New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said he was not aware of the new license.
“I think it’s great the governor has approved the request for proposal,” spokeswoman Mary Ellen McGlynn said in an email.
“As the governor said, this is just the first step and we’re going to do everything we can to ensure all of New York is safe for all users.
We will continue to work closely with New York’s public health department on this matter.”
The license application for Weed Vapers was submitted by the company in September.
The company said it plans to open in New Amsterdam in October.
